Default 351C Performance Question

I have a 351C 2V engine and what i am trying to do is get about 320HP at the wheels what are some suggestion as to what i can do to the engine. I would like to keep the stock heads if possible if it isn't possible with the swap tell me.

Would a edlebrock performer with a compcam268H with the extras you know new lifter and springs and a four barrel carb be enough. The car will be a street car about95% of the time, butmy buddy might talk me to take it to the 1/8 mile drag to race his camaro every once in a wahile and i would rather no looses to bad.

I didnt want to go all roller if i could advoid let me know what you think. Also what do you think that a 1969 coupe with a 351C in it weighs.

look at cam# 32-242-4. its operating range is 100 less and 100 more than the cam your looking at (thanks to a more modern, dual pattern design)

step up from the performer to a performer rpm, you want a carb in the 625-650 cfm range, and adding roller rockers would be a nice touch. long tube headers, and a decent set of mufflers with a crossover pipe and you should be kicking your buddies camaro butt.

Depending on your bottom end specs I think that 320hp number will be easy to reach. I will say, if you have the money don't shy away from a roller cam. It will make a hugh difference and then you can consider all kinds of intake options. I wouldn't go the performer route. It's way to conservative. Then again, you'll have to let us know whats in the bottom before you can build the top. Either way, the 320 is easy IMO. Good luck.

my77 gots it right

320HP isnt hard to attain with a C, but why 320? kind of a random hp number to want. not 300 not 350?

You can't do 320 to the back tire with stock valve train and stock converter.

You will need more stall to support the larger cam you will need.
You will need to replace the 2 peice valves with one peice.
You would should install screw in studs and run a nice set of rollers
You don't need a roller cam

I know this because my 410 put down 330 to the back tire. It takes alot more than just a cam. Granted I was running it through a heavier AOD and 9 inch rear, however, that cam will not make 320 HP to the back tire.

Dont think they make a performer rpm intake but they make the RPM Air Gapfor the clevland would i have any hood clearance issues it is taller than the regular performer that is the main reason i chose the performer?

I do havea 9" rear end though i dont know the gear ratio and now it has the C4 transmission, which will probally stay for now.

What do you mean exactly when you say bottom end specs?

OK for valves what would be good the Aussie or mabe the Edlebrock any sugestion of kind or brands.

I picked 320 at the wheels since i thought that was a more realistic number to get if i wasnt going to change the heads hey i mean the more the better right.

what he meant by changing the valves is using your heads, but with new valves in them. if your going to pull the heads and get a valve job/resurface and put new valves/springs on there to help support your higher HP goals. you should be able to do it with your stock heads though, thats a benefit to having a cleveland.

look

for about 200 bucks in parts, and another 150-250 for a valve job and surface your heads will be in tip top shape and ready to support some serious power. keep in mind that while they are off you can tackle them with a dremel tool and smooth out any rough spots in the ports and have the machine shop do a little machine porting while they are at it.

i dont know about the airgap intake clearing the hood or not (someone should know) but im guessing worse case is a drop base air cleaner which is no big deal.
