Default RE: Compressor advise

ORIGINAL: Soaring

Does it really matter how loud an air compressor is? I mean, come on, it's out in the garage or work shed. You buy the most capacity air compressor that you can afford. If you buy a small cheap compressor, then you can't use tools as efficiently as you could with larger and more expensive compressors. That's a no-brainer.
Really the noise is just an annoyance, but since my house is on a realtivly small lot, I cant seem to get far enough away from my noisy oil-less (yea I have one,,, damn). This combined with the agrivation of the thing not keeping up agrivates me to no end.

I have a reasonably good dual stage 7HP compressor at work, but we are working on the Mustang at home, so I bought a cheap oil-less (4 or 5 HP) for at home, and I have regretted it ever since! I could have paid a little more for a better compressor.

I have also found that the compressor I have at home does not pump up as good as it used to, I think that it is showing signs of wear even before completing one car, and we still have a lot of sanding to do.
