I just checked, and I have the 3M 8011 (black). Is that the correct stuff?

Ford used the yellow adhesive but on a dark car black might blend in better. I use the yellow almost all the time, although I keep a tube of black in the beer frige for use around the house.Don't go a short piece at a time, you'll leave gaps. The tape will keep it alligned and if you really screw up, it will come off easy.3M8011 is not weatherstrip adhesive. 3M8001 (yellow) and 3M8008 (black).

Do you use it for the weatherstip around the doors, also?

The 3M8001 and 3M8008, sure. I found the 3M8011 in the NPD catalog and they list it for plastic and emblem use. I don't think it's strong enough for weatherstripping. 3M8001 and 3M8008 are contact cements. After they dry on the first application on each surface you can almost make them work; but the second layer really sticks them together.

Thanks Jim!

It would beeasier to remove the trunk lidand apply it while it is off the car so I would not get that glue everywhere. But that in itself is a PITA!

I used 3M spray adhesive on my weather stripping. The yellow 3M didn't want to stick after drying. After installing the trunk weatherstrip I had to remove it because my fiberglass decklid wouldn't seat correctly. I ended up getting a rubber weatherstripping that wasn't as tall and now it fits perfect.

Valley,

That is one of my concerns. If my weatherstrip is too tall, then the fiberglass deck lid will not close correctly.

Just for an FYI, which weatherstrip did you go with?

Having the seam at the rear of the car to keep rain out makes sense to me. I put it at the front of the decklid because I didn't want dust and exhaust fumes getting sucked into the trunk and eventually into the passenger compartment. I guess I figured if rain did make it past the seal it would just go into the lip around the trunk and flow out to the rear. I used the black 3M8008 on the white car and it doesn't show plus it blends better with the black rubber seal. I also did the second application of adhesive in small increments like the instructions say and it adhered fine with no gaps. With my fiberglass lid the correct seal didn't cause any closure issues.

Which seal did you use, the same one I have pictured at the top of this thread?
