Default Help!! Throw-out Bearing Issue

Guys,

I an doing a t5 conversion on my 66. I do not have a whole lot of experience with this kind of stuff. I went to install a throw-out (or release) bearing and it seem way to tight for the shaft. How tight is it supposed to be? Right now I would have use a mandrel and hammer to get it on. This doesn't sound right to me. Should I just go get another one? Do they sell them a local store like NAPA?

Thanks
Dom

It should not be tight at all...period..it should move freely (not sloppily), otherwise it may not pull all the way off the p-p fingers when you release the clutch.

What release bearing did you go with? It should move freely like Mike said. Make sure you go with the t5 release.

I bought a kit of the internet. I was supposed to be for an 88 mustang which the t5 is from. Everything else fits.

Go down to Auto zone or Napa and get another one. they aren't expensive. Take the one you got and a pair of calipers to make sure it's bigger. Measure your input shaft before you go.

You will ruin your pilot shaft with a bad bearing like that...be careful with how it fits, could just be a bad machine job from the factory...def should go on freely, goodluck

It is not quite that simple. The throwout bearing has to match the linkage he is using.i.e. the throwout bearing is different for cable (pull) and stock (push) lower lever arms.
