Default RE: subframe connectors?

My car was involved in a drunk driving incident where it mangled the front end, we have the car stripped down now where can I go to get this all checked out? I assume any body shop can do this right?

Ever see a new car going down the street sort of - sideways? It's called 'crabbing'. You get that effect when the car has been in an accident. The frame is distorted. So I wonder how many of you 'mod' guys had the frame alignment on your 35 to 40 year old cars checked before you let the muffler shop weld your brand new sub-frame connectors in place. All this frame allignment stuff is in the service manual. Thispictureis from the 65 Mustang service manual. Don't get me wrong, I think that sub-frame connectors are a good thing, just look before you leap - or weld.
(The letter 'A' in red means you need to do an 'X' measurement on the frame both ways.)

You need to find a frame alignment and body shop, if they don't say 'frame alignment' they probably don't do it. A body shop will pull frames 'by eye' (and some of them 'look' it), no measurements done. The shop I used had several plumb bobs hanging under the car from the datum points and they used steel tapes to do the measureing. All this was done over a 'pit' so there was easy access to do the checking after the car was 'pulled'.

Yeah, I thought about doing that at first, then I started thinking why not try it? How much of an improvement in strength will I expect to see? I have the global west connectors, at least they look sturdy!

James,

Is that a 'safety strap' on the end of the Traction Master? If so, that is a good idea. I sheared the front bolt on my right TM on my '65 GT coupe and it was not a pretty sight. Can you say 'light show' from the sparks? I'm just glad it didn't get caught in a rut before I discovered it. I put some 'safety straps' on it after that.

I couldn't of said it better.

Your car is thirty years old, you can't just weld up the subframe connectorsto your car on it's suspension like you can a modern 5.0 or a new edge.
