Ok,
Well, I just finished painting all the interior trim pieces using Krylon for plastics for all the black parts, and the NPD PPG paint for all the white pieces. All that is left to paint are the doors (green to black), dash (white to white), and A pillars (green to black). My question, if the surface condition is in good shape, what is the minimum amount of prep work that will be needed to get these done? Could I just clean the surface with a degreaser and isopropyl, scuff the surface with scotch brite pad, and paint it like the other trim pieces?

there is a product called bulldog i think which is for plactic paint adehsoin you should check into it if your painting plastic and want it to last long. as for prep if it is in desent shape then scotch brighting and painting over shouldnt be a proplem make sure you blow unwanted dust out and maby tac off what you want pained

 

So you are saying that I should be fine just scotch brighting (in addition to cleaning and degreasing) the metal dash and doors before painting? I hope so, because I am not too interested in sanding or stripping paint. I used Krylon for Plastics in satin black for all the fiberglass and small metal trim pieces.

you could take a da (dual action) sander to some of the larger ares feather out some of the larger scratches you may have. if it was me thats what i would do.

 

I used vinyl dye on the plastic pieces in my car, and it has been good to go for 12 years now. For the metal, the most important step is to use a degreaser to get off any wax. Then either the scotch brite or light sanding for adhesion. I used primer then color on mine, but that may not have been necessary.

 

For my plastic I have had more luck in the du-pont system with adhesion. They have a plastic prep wipe then you spray on plas-tik then seal and go at it. I like to use sem soap w/gray scuff pad for my initial prep. Again this is my preference.
