Default It has Arrived!

Fianlly got my mig welder today. I had to leave work for my lunch break to get it, but it was either that or wait til after the weekend.
It' theLincoln Power Mig 140C. That's the 110v one, but I think it will fulfil my needs quite nicely. Unfortunalty my welding mask hasn't arrived yet so I'll have to just drool for now.
I've never mig welded before so this should be fun! I do know how to Oxy weld so that will at least help. I just can't see myself trying to wled on my quaters without it!

i have a welding mask, and its an auto darkenin one, very annoying, so i just wear a very dark pair of sunglasses and that does the job, although i do get a sunburn from the welding sometimes.

Auto darkening is the only way to go. Ive used the older style and you spend all your time lifting your hood to see. You can get a cheap auto hood for under a hundred bucks. You get what you pay for though because the clarity isnt as good.

I ordered a Miller auto darkening mask. I was a little under two hundred, but as previously stated., You get what you pay for.
And atomsk680,are your sunglasses dark enough for the light?

Yeah, Atom you are damaging your eyes with just sunglasses. Get smart and get a hood.

Grimm, Oxygen/acetelene and mig welding are two entirely different animals. Here read up on this free online welding course then get some scrap steel and practice, practice.

I have three words for you Grim...Practice, Practice, Practice. You will have to play with the heat and speed settings until you get the hang of it. Please wear a welding hood! If anyone on here has ever burned their eyes they will agree with me! Is it flux core or did you also get the argon setup?

Atom they are probably "cutting" goggles. When you are cutting with Oxy/Acty the flame is rather bright so they made a lighter shade lens. Also to everyone, the lighter your eye color, the more damaging arc flash can be. My dad welded for years and he wears some pretty thick glasses everyday now.

I have found Mig welding to be the easiest of my welding experiences its easy quick to learn and does a great job, i do have to say im a fan of Oxy/Acetylene though its just more fun to weld with fire
