i have a 289 in my 67 mustang but there is a guy near me with a 289 from out of a 66 coupe and it comes with a c4 trans also an the ac compressor and powersteering pump and everything and new rods pistons and bearing rockers basiclly every hard part that i need to rebuild it ...for 400 dollars what do you guys thing will a 66 289 work in a 67

The first 289was a D code at less than 200 horsepower.

If it runs and the transmission is good and you get the A/C and P/S pumps, sure. The only difference between a 67 and a 66 289 is the 67 required smog equipment. Only California requiredsmog equipment on a 66 and even then, the stupid politicians wrote the law to read - 'sold after Jan 1, 1966', not model year 1966, not 'built after' but 'sold after'. So much for my soapbox. The transmission has a different shift pattern however, no big deal. They are a spares anda commodity, something to trade or sell.

Andrew, it is the same engine. If you want to buy it and put it in your car, it will bolt right up.
