Carb Help
I have an Ebelbrock 1406 carb on my 289. The piece of all thread that holds down the air cleaner was too long. I put a dent in my hood. [:@] I was trying to grind ir down and the nut that secures it to the card came off. Now that it is completely off I will go to the hardware store and get a shorter piece of all thread. How do I get it secured back to the carb?
It just threads into the carburetor until it bottoms out. Double nut it so you can 'seat' it so it doesn't want to come back out when you remove the wingnut on your air cleaner.
[edit] If yours is too long, just place a nut on the end, then cut off the desired length and run the wing nut over it to clean the threads.

Then your all thread bolt is too small of a diameter bolt. Go get one that fits. Also, here is what gothand was talking about a nut to keep the bolt from turning when you take the wing nut off and on.

OK. I went and got a flashlight and I do see threads way down in the carb. The card is not threaded the entire length of the shaft just the bottom of it. So can I take my piece of all thread and get a shorter one the same size and thread count?

Get an all thread that is the right size and length, then add a nut after it bottoms out,and you will be set to go if your bolt isn't too long or too short.
