I use petronnix II with the flamethrower coil and wires and my car runs great. I highly recommend the change, I think you will notice an immediate improvement. I have a stock I6.
I was reluctant to put a Pertronix I in my distributor for a long time. An automobileshop owner and damn good mechanic summed it up rather well, 'what do you do when it fails?'. Anything electronic for a long time had a reputation of a short lifespan. Technology has improved over the years and so has the reliability of things electronic. I had some ignition problems on my 66 hardtop anda Pertronix I, and the recomended coil, solved them. I'm sold on Pertronix - but I keep a set of points in the car.

I have the petronix in my 65 289 and absolutely love it. The old girl starts immediately and runs great. I have been reading about the pertronix on this and other forums for a few years now, and can safely say that the electronic system is the way to go. I still have a set of points in the tool box in the trunk, but I doubt seriously if I will have to use it ever again.
I have been using the same one for 10 years and I have had it on 4 different engines. Never had any problems with it. The Ignitor is one of the best upgrades for classic cars, easy install and better performance. *****
Pertronix II on the 289 4V 1965 Mustang. Starts immediately and runs great. I carry a spare Pertronix II kit in the trunk (Coil & module) just in case. Love the conversion, highly recommend it.
i used pertronix II it was ok then i went with something a little better Duraspark II because if the module ever went out i can replace it at any parts house i also use msd with the DSII its amazing difference than the DSII i highly recomend CDI ignition
I am still using points and love them. I like the fact that I can change them out for under 30 bucks, adjust, and go. Electronic things scary mebecause when they go bad all I can do is stare at them. That being said, Jim is right; I think the electronic components of today last a long time.

i like messing with the points as I know what I'm doing there. But you can't beat the accuracy of a perronix.
the thing changes dwell according to RPM. Something that points will never do.
This is good enough reason to upgrade top pertronix as soon as I have the money. So there is no question about what is better

I recall a very old joke that goes something like this. A young guy was showing off his new bike to an old man. "What do you think of my bike? Old man"
Well I never could see the point of working the hell out of my legs just to give my *** a ride"
It takes about 3 minutes every 10K miles to change a set of points.
You'll spent the price of a lifetime supply of points and the time needed to changethe next 20-30 sets of points.Meanwhile you don't need an extra anything.
