Wheels and suspension

Would tires making the wheels in general look fatter or should we get staggered 1" wider in the rear?

Here is a photo of my car with the track tires in the back (275 40 17) and my normal street tires in the front (245 40 17) on the same size rim

Here is a photo of my car in full street with 255 40 17 on the rear and the 245 40 17 on the front

In both photos the car still has a little forward rake, but nothing like the style popular in the 80s when you would add high lift shackels to artificially hold the rear end up over some over sized tires that didn't fit the car mading it impossible for the suspension to do its job and drove/handled like crap.
The selection between 4 and 5 leaf springs is more about performance goals that fitting tires.
This photo shows my car which has 5 leaf mid eye springs sitting next to a same year coupe that has 4 leaf standard eye (with 215 60 15 tires), as you can see the 4 leaf car is sitting higher, that's because they have a standard eye mount so the car rides at the stock height.

4 leaf will offer you a softer ride than a 5 leaf. Because of the nature of stiffness during normal driving on smooth roads you might think you have realized some benefit to put wider tires on, but the reality is the suspension travel is the same (it just takes more force for it to get there with the 5 leaf) so in spirited driving situations or very large bumps you will still rub if you are running a tire/rim combo that does not fit.
If you want to keep it original style look you could try these. They are from NXT Generation Wheels.
