head installation question
i hope to be installing new heads tomorrow, using a fel pro gasket. should i use some of that "gasket sealer" that holds the gasket inplace during installation - i have used it before but never with aluminum heads. the stuff i used in the past was a copper compound, in a small brown bottle. i think it was called INDIAN HEAD - or something close to that.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! If you got a good Fel Pro gasket(and pretty much most head gaskets are like this now) it will require NO sealants/adhiesives. Do NOT use them. The 2 dowls on the deack will hold the gasket, and the head in place, while you install it. Don't lose those dowls btw
nope, nothing on the head gasket. the two alignment dowels hold the gasket in place. be sure to use some permatex silicone around the water jackets on both sides of the intake gaskets though, and a little bit of weatherstripping adhesive will hold the intake gaskets on the heads to prevent them from moving around when you set the intake on.
oh yeah, and dont use the front and rear cork gaskets for the intake. instead, use a 1/4" bead of silicone.
good luck, and remember if you have any trouble just drop a line on here and someone will help you

You're probably aware of this but it is worth mentioning.
Be sure to put the front of the gasket toward the front of the engine. This will mean that one looks upside-down. Failure to do this blocks water passages and pretty soon you'll be posting about an overheating problem.
Be sure to torque down in the proper sequence and steps.
Good luck.
