Default pulling my timing chain

Had to buy a new timing chain cover for other reasons. Pulling my timing chain because it looks like one side has more play in the chain then required I think. My question is I know that thegearsneedto be lined up, andI need to use apully for the bottom gear, but theseal? in front of the lowergear not sure how to get that off, and the top gear will it just come off after removing that big "O" ring around it?
Thanks

Unless there is somthing I don't know about some Ford engines, the top gear should come off once you remove thecenter bolt holding the gear to the cam. As far as getting the seal out of the cover, you need to support the timing cover close to the seal and gently drive the old one out. (as gently as possible, making sure it comes out evenly from side to side)

However, since you are installing a new cover, you will only need to install a new seal. Put a little gasket sealer on the seal, using a big socket or somthing else that will fit the seals outside edges, carefully drive the seal all the way into the seat while supporting the timing cover. Make sure it goes in squarely, and with the "lip" of the seal facing the engine. The old seal can not/should not be re-used.

When removing the crankshaft (bottom) gear, be carefull to not let the key (for keyway) fall into the oil pan. You are supposed to replace the key every time it is removed, but truth be told, if the key looks good I always re-use them. A new key is seldom (if ever) supplied with a new set of gears.

Good Luck!!!

<<sorry about the edit, 1 bolt, not 3 bolts,,, stuck on GM?>>
