Need Your Help Guys!
Alright, I finally found a fastback not too far from me (would have to take plane, ~8 hour drive).
It's a 68 mustang fastback. Pics can be found here.
I called this morning and found out the following:
It's a 302 with a manual 5 speed transmission from a donor car (forget the exact year he said).
It is running but apparently the brakes are in too bad of a condition for it to be a daily driver, however they are good enough to drive it to a body shop or etc.
He doesn't know if it has a/c or a heater because the door tag is missing. It has a 9' rear end. The drivers door would need to be replaced as rust is eating through it. Quarters are solid but there is a little surface rust near wheel wells. Fenders have a little surface rust. And where the water runs down the windows there is rust at the bottom of that. It also needs a new dash pad, it's warped and cracked. The bucket seats are in good condition.
I was just wondering what your guys' opinions are. He is asking $8,500 for it, but we (my father and I) could probably bring it down a little.
Do you guys think it is worth to fly down there and look at? I was looking at a replacement door from yearone and it was 387 while the dash pad was 580. True this is a namebrand company, but how cheap are these products? Is it possible to install A/C and heating in a car that wasn't ordered with it from the factory?
Thanks. Any other questions or things I should find out?
Edit: By the way, this would be my daily driver once as soon as I fixed the brakes.

You must be loaded,, or better yet,, your father is..
That thing has a lot of bad rust. Its going to take a crap load of sheet metal and money and it looks like the body has more body filler than dolly pardon's *****.. Im not sure what the fastback owners here would think, but I would keep looking.. That thing is a rust bucket, with alot of hidden rust considering how much you can see in the pics.. I bet the floor pans are just about gone too.. If you plan on stripping it and bead blasting it clean and then replacing all of the sheet metal, then go for it.. I wouldnt do it though..

It looks like its had a lot of "mods" done to it. The back wheels stick out a bunch and I see a serpentine belt drive.
I didn't see any A/C on it and it seems weird that he would be smart enough to find out if it had ac from a door tag but not smart enough to open the hood and see if the ac is sitting there or not ????
8,000 would probably be a good buy

All things considered the rust didnt "look" that bad to me but yes it probably will need new floor pans. I have seen fastbacks in worse condition sell for more. No doubt that it will take a fair share extra to make it daily driver reliable.

Sorry If I jumped the gun (no pun intended) but Im not a fan of rust and all of the body problems that I see seem to be all comeing from lots of Bondo.. Im not sure what the fastbacks are worth in that condition, but it did seem a little high to me.. At least with the amount of work that will be required..
I have spent about $15,000 on repairs getting mine to look the way it does. New floor pans, quater panels, fenders, hood, doors. I paid $6,800 for mine and it looks like what yours did when buing it. But if you have the time and the paitence go for it. It will be worth every penny you put in it. But it will cost you alot of money to fix up just be ready to dish out some dough. If it was just a coupe I say forget it it isn't worth your time and effort but the fact it is a hatch back makes it way more hard to come by. Try looking for parts at this place. www.calponycars.com they carry really good parts made here in America not over seas. And they don't cost nearly as much as Year One or Scott Drake. You have any questions on that car hit me up I have built 4 of them.

What I was wanting to find was a driveable project. How much work would this car need so I could drive it as a daily driver? I don't mind driving in primer, with ugly interior. or any of that kind of stuff. Just want to know if I did go for this how long it would take till I could drive it.
