Hi,Points replacement info needed
What engine? When I ran points in my 289, my Chilton's stated that 0.017 was the proper setting. Try that. I have the pertronix electronic ignition and you cannot tell that I have electronic unless you pop the dizzy cap.
My engine is a 68 289, Chilton call 021. For the 66 and 67289 it calls for 017. I may try a smaller gap, going towards a 29deg value,
Does a 23.5/24 deg value could explain a bit of hesitation in ignition?
Can you tell me more about your pertronix electronic ignition . When you say you need to pop the dizzy cover, wha do you mean?
Thanks

I mean the pertronix module is no bigger than your thumb and fits right where your points and condenser currently sit inside the distributor. With the distributor cap on, you cannot tell if it electronic or points. I am one of the most "Keep it Factory Correct" guys on this forum, but I have the pertronix and it solves a ton of problems that you are currently experiencing, and the module is less than a hundred dollars and installs in the same time it takes you to change the points. Once installed, you never have to touch it again.
Pertronix systems are available at most mail order Mustang store. Try National Part Depot (NPD) http://www.npdlink.com/for description and pricing. And get the coil too.
Again, when do you feel you are getting 'hesitation'?

Here is a pic of it installed in my 65 289. As you research, keep in mind that you do not have to buy another coil. You can use the coil you already have, and I would get the Pertronix I. They perform better than the Pertronix II. Also, here is an article in how to install it. http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2...ix/index.shtml

At idle, there is hesitation, bit sporadic, missing there and there. When I run it, while accelerating slowly from stop, I feel the misses, after a certain acceleration, it becomes less noticeable, but it feels like there is a certain lack of power because of it.
That's why I would like to fix it, so no misses, obtaining direct response from the throttle from start to higher speed.

That has all the symptoms of a 'carburator' bug. I think you have resolved your ignition concerns (put the Pertronix in anyway) and need to look at the carb. What type is it? How old is it?

Make sure your gas filter is new, then take out the jets and use carb cleaner on them to be sure they fre not plugged. Actually, you may as well just go ahead and overhaul that carb if it has been a few years since it was cleaned. Another thing. Stumbling and spitting can be caused by water in the gas. How old is that gas?
