Basic Ignorance
Ok,, the title of the thread says it all, so I plead ignorance.
My son and I put a set of Edelbrock Vic Jr. heads on his 351, this is the first Ford egine I have ever really worked on. I had assumed that the temp sender (for the gauge) would be in the head. For a long time I have not really thought about where this thing should go, I need to put one in now. To my embareassment, I don't know where the heat sensor goes. No one seems to publish where the sensor goes, probably because they don't think anyone could be that ignorant, well, I proved them wrong on that account.
So, the basic question is where is the heat sensor supposed to go, I can not find anyplace on the head whereit will fit,am Imissingsomething??

James, Obviously I don't have the answer, but have you contacted the Edelbrock guys and asked this same question? If not, you should.

I feel about as dumb as a stone....

Is it typical that there is not a place for the heat sensor on small block Ford engine heads, or is this an issue specific to these Edelbrock heads?
I feel like my Ford IQ is about 40 and falling..........

Yep,I'm pretty sure the 351 is the same as the 289/302 - the sensor is threaded into the water jacket in front of the carb on the intake manifold. What intake are you using?

I guess I am way to used to the heat sender being in the head on Chevys, I have been baffled over this for a couple of days. I had installed the sensor into the thermostat housing, but I started thinking that it would not really work until the thermostat opened, which in the worst case would be too late,,,,
Thanks for the help here, I was really struggling!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you can also get a thermostat housing (that bolts on the intake) that has a threaded spot that can and is sometimes used for the temperature sensor. My stock housing has it, but is blocked off.
There is no shame in ignorance. Most people are ignorant of most things. This is a condition that can be remedied with instruction and information.
True stupidity however is a more rare yetpermanent condition that one should be ashamed of.However, in my experience I have found that most stupid people are too stupid to realize that that are stupid so they keep doing stupid crap.
In any event, good luck with your project and welcome to the "dark side" as my Brand X friends call the FoMoCo family.
