There's one at Summit which doesn't overheat and it has an "engine bump system" so that I can start it from the Engine compartment. Does anyone have one of these?
I have never had one myself. It sounds like a new good idea, but these solenoids were standard equipment on Ford cars and trucks of the 30s and 40s.

Look,,, an old idea is new again,,,

Make sure that you don't push that button while the car is in gear, especially if the ignition switch is on.... the netural safetyswitch will not work of course.

Okay well tell me what you guys think. I'm going out to buy the parts in a couple of hours.

Autozone regular solenoid
Summit Racing/Painless Wiring Solenoid
Is this other regular one worth the extra money?

The summit unit is not a soleniod, it works in conjunction with a solinoid, if youuse the summit thing, you will need a solenoid as well.

The "old style" that I mentioned above, is a regular looking solenoid that has a button on the end of the "barrel", when depressed, the button manually pushes the plunger into the contacts.

I imagine that the one I was talking about is no longer available due to public liability issues. This is what I was thinking of...

Way back when or a long time ago in a galaxy - - I got called upon to help out a guy in a 65 Fastback Mustang who had his keys 'swiped' by his pissed off girl friend. I showed him how to get the car started with a screw driver across the 'appropiate' solenoid terminals and where a jumper to the coil was connected. It worked out fine. He got his car home and as to the girl friend situation, I don't know. But, a couple of days later, that guy and his brother made a late night 'visit' to a Ford dealer and 'borrowed' a 66 Fairlane GTA. The car showed up a couple of years later in the local river - stripped. I'm reluctent to show the technique to anyone today.

$5.00 says none of the teenagers on here know how to hotwire a classic Mustang. Any takers?
