I wanna dump the smog pump and all it's nasty plumbing and crap. Anybody tell me what needs to be used to plug holes, etc? Do I need different exhaust manifolds or can they be plugged? If I have to take 'em off to get the rails and other stuff out I may as well go with new JBA's or at least GT manifolds. Was the smog equipment only in California that early?

I'd also like to remove the stock airconditioning. The cabin unit, plumbing, and the compressor in the engine bay. I plan on keeping all the parts but I just do not want, or need, them on the car. Changing the plugs and putting on new plug wires yesterday was a nightmare. I had a 289 2bbl (without a/c or smog equip)back in the 70's and it was a dream to work on compared to this one.

I've looked around quite a bit for tech articles on these two subjects and haven't found anything useful yet.

Somebody outta make a "Kit". ;-)

A kit to remove smog crap? Don't think so. Do a search on this forum (look under the fast reply section on the right), it's all been discussed before.

Just get the right size pipe plugs, probably 1/4" or 3/8". Ac stuff is no prob, it all comes off easy and clean....

<<Edit, 3/16 changed to 3/8",,, duh,,,,>>

The smog rails connect to the cylinder head. If you want to keep these heads, you'll need to install the plugs that they make specifically for this. I think NPD sells them. Only chevy smog equip. connects to the exhaust manifold in the early years.
