Default Stainless polish

Since my car is in paint for the next month or so, I'm going to tackle the restoration of some of the trim pieces including the stainless windshield trim and the chrome. Bringing the chrome back to life seems to be pretty much a no-brainer, but I'm less confident on the stainless. I saw a Mustanng in the showrooom of a Mustang parts store that looked incredible. I'm wondering how to take the fine scratches out and make it pop like that car did.

Thanks!

I would love to know this as well, my trim is in bad shape and could use a complete restoration....Restoring instead of replacing is def. the way to go.

yes I need to know also! I need to shine up all the trim while my car is in the shop soon.

Gothand, did you find the body/paint place you are going to use? I think we found mine, $$, but they do great work from what we've seen. Hopefully my car will be back from the blaster next week, any word about yours?

best things i found to use for polishing is something called neverdull and mothers mag and alum polish.and the polishing buff ball mothers sells you put on a drill saves alot of elbow grease. for the fine scratchs on stainless id try some really high grit sandpaper wet then metal polish. or pull out the phone book youll find a metal polisher there or anyone that does chrome can.that flizt thing on tv alot of people says it works could give that a shot.

Neverdull works great. give it a try. My Dad used it in the 50s and 60s when he was in the Canadian Navy, They used it to polish verything .

Use a 120 grit bristle disk made by 3M, works great. Once cleaned up with the disk use a ss cleaner to get the fine scratches out. I only know of one cleaner, made by JW Harris and should be orderable at most welding distributors. Ill post the part numbers after work on Monday. (Yes I work for a distributor).

Try buffing out the tiny 'droppings' with 0000 steel wool then use a chrome polish like good old 'Turtle Wax' to bring out the shine. Finish the job with a paste wax. If you got a scratch that won't come out - it won't come out. I've used a polish called 'Simichrome Polish' I think from Germany with some success on stainless, aluminum and chrome too.

.........mothers mag and alum polish.........
+1 for alum. trim, just take your time and work it in then buff it off - like all metal polishes it's a little abrasive so unless your trim is in really bad shape you can polish each piece as much/little as it needs to bring it back , takes some time but nothing tricky about it

im a old redneck why replace something when you can clean it up and make look just like new for less money then a replacement.
