Me and John
Glen the alternator doesnt really suck up much power. Doesnt matter if an electric fan is on or not. The flex fan is just as you guys described it. I only run clutch fans or electrics, nothing else. it depends on how much work I have to do on the engine, and what use I have it for. The race cars get electrics so I can cool them between rounds. The trucks get clutches because they are trucks.lol.
John check the bar oposite the pull cable if it isnt there or is bent they wont work. They made those out of 1/4" or larger rod so they wouldnt bend. Also check your rear pads for wear. Sometimes the calipers with the Ebrake in them will hang up. If the ebrake mechanisim is inside the brake rotor then make sure the cable isnt bound anywhere and there is friction material on the pads/shoes.
As for the cables rubbing the floor pans, thats normal. Dont worry about it, they get used so infrequently they wont wear against the floor pans. The factory didnt care if they touched the rest of the car or not, and every old car I have has them against the floor pans.

Thumpin, I will take a look at the pads and calipers. I had my mechanic take a look at the setup when I first bought it. He said one of the calipers were hung and put a new one on. You may have something there. I will check it out.
I like the cable roller idea but I was planning to split a piece of vacuum hose and slip it over the e- brake cable where it contacts the car. At least it eliminate the metal to metal contact. I haven't actuall done it yet....thats what I should be doing right now.
That's real strange to hear that is is common for the E brake cable to rub against the floor. Mine doesn't on my 65. There is a guide that it goes through to keep it away from the floor. And, use my e brake almost everytime I park. So, it gets used a lot. It's not necessarily the wear and tear on the floor pan that I would be concerned about. It would be the wear and tear on the cable.
