They won't clear, as I mentioned you'll need GT heads and GT manifolds to run a stock exhaust. I seem to recall that 65 and earlier FE's have a different motor mount bolt pattern that is not compatible with the mounts required for a Mustang. You might want to ask the guy's at fordfe.com.
Maybe I should go with a 351W.
Anybody need an old 61 390....LOL

why not just build a killer 302? Get some cast iron RHS heads paint em ford blue, solid roller cam with rev kit, hi rise holman moody or offenhauser intake, .030 overbore, 10.5:1 pistons, 5.4 inch rods, forged crank.. you could do it for about 4-5k and have a killer engine and still be stock looking!

I thought about that too, but I have my race car. I want to keep it mild and run Reg gas. It gets so hot here (110 today) that they are hard to keep cool too. A 351 would give me more cubes and I could still keep it mild. The car will only be driven once in a while also.

If you go to a larger engine, put a torque box on the passenger side. There wasnt one on the 67 small block cars.

Keeping a 390 cool in the heat isnt fun. They are also heavy and some of the parts for the swap are rare and exepensive.

Plug changes are enjoyable after a 390 swap[/sarcasm]

I have a 67 oriiginal 6 cyl car. I bought it with a 302 C-4. I just spent about 5 months installing a 428 SCJ and a TKO-600 five speed with a hydraulic clutch. I changed the radiator to an aftermarketaluminumonewith an electric fan. The motor mounts were tough. My SCJ has 3 pieces from block to frame. I used the 2 top pieces and just drilled out my 3rd piece(from the 302 configuration)to the frame. It can be done but very little room. I didn't cut or move anything. The headman longtube headers fit fine. The only issue I had was getting the motor mounts bolted and the headers bolted with everything in the car. i was tough but well worth it.
