66 motor build
I'm a new memberand starting to make a list of what I want for drivetrain. It currently has a rebuilt 289 with C4. I would like to see RWHP in the 400's with a 5 or 6 speed. I would like fuel injection and a supercharger more than likely will be added. I am open to suggestions on how to accomplish this. It will not be a daily driver, but I do wanta somewhat reliable vehicle in the end.
Thanks Guys

just buy a 5 oh roller motor, throw some good heads, cam, intake, injectors, some gears, and a shot of juice with a paxton or some kinda SC and tadaaaaaa you are winnor! I know some domestic guys think that turbos are "rice" but i suggest looking at hellion turbo kits, they make MAD torque.
Emperor, so you dont think the 289 will do it? I do have a 351 block rebuilt back to stock. After reading about the tight fit in a 66, i dont thinka 351is something that i want to do.
Would it be better to buy a new 5.0 block or search for a used one?

oh you could convert the 289 to EFI (i think ask jamesw i think he used a 302 though) just my understanding is teh roller motors are already efi, safe you some time and money, and they like a upgraded cam better.
Has anyone dealt with t and l engines? I live a little over an hour from there. The 331 stroker sounds real nice and the price doesnt look bad. It seems that they only build carb motors, no fuel injection. With a supercharger, I'd rather have fuel injection. Any feed back on a 331 package would be real helpful guys.
one of our members works for them, and from the shop pics i have seen that shop knows their stuff.
that being said, i would rather have the 289 than a 302 - and yes you can easily add EFI to it. if you built that motor with some nice flowing aluminum heads like AFR / Trick Flow / Canfield / Dart / Brodix / Edelbrock / etc. along with a fairly lumpity cam you would be in a happy place....... add a supercharger (easy) or a turbo (a little more work) and you'll be over 400 @ the wheels with noooooo problems

why the 289 over the 302? it doesnt matter to me as long as i get good results without killing the motor. do i even need to consider stroking whichever motor to obtain my hp goals?
stroking makes your goal easier, but its not at all farfetched to make the power you want from the smalled motor.
about the 289...
1) its the right motor for your car
2) it has a better rod to stroke ratio. (longer rod, shorter stroke). those benefits are greater than the benefits of gaining a few cubic inches and having a 302. it will rev faster, and can be safely revved higher than a 302. that makes for more "pep" in its step, snappy response is a good thing [8D]
3) everyone and their mom has a 302 - its become as common as a 350 chevy...... *shudders* [:'(][:'(][:'(]
