Has anyone dealt with t and l engines? I live a little over an hour from there. The 331 stroker sounds real nice and the price doesnt look bad. It seems that they only build carb motors, no fuel injection. With a supercharger, I'd rather have fuel injection. Any feed back on a 331 package would be real helpful guys.
I am the one that works at T&L I machine the blocks. You can get anything you want EFI, Blowers, in fact yesterday we had a motor on the dyno with a 200 shot of NOS and its still warranteed as long as you tell us you want to run it with NOS so we can build it to take it. That engine was over 1000hp.We are selling alot of the weber carbed engines now. If you give us a call Lloyd or Doug can answer your questions better than I can, I am so busy with blocks I only see some of the more radical builds when they hit the dyno.

o3maverick if your going to stroke your 289 the crank and rods wont matter because you wont use them!! essentially the 289 block is the same as a 302 it has a 4 inch bore the difference was in the crank and rods! but please don't use the 289 rods with stock rod bolts as they won't hold up to high revs as the originally came with smaller 5/16 bolts vs the 302/s 3/8!! anyway, I'd go with a 302 roller moter from dss or coast high !! you can stroke it for added power and then I'd add a roots type weiand supercharger with a carb on top weiand makes a 174 model!! make sure you have low compression on your motor preferibly around 8.5 to 1 the lower the better and the more boost you can add!!! a roller motor will rev quicker I have a 85 gt with a roller motor built to the hilt!! and a 66 mustang with a 74 302 non roller and throttle response on the 85 reving in nuetral is alot crisper!!!

302's also came with 5/16 bolts (unless we're talking boss 302's, which were essentially 289 hipo rods) and the 289 block has shorter cylinder skirts which makes it a bad choice for a stroker platform.

stick with the 289, and build it to be fast as hell. its not hard, just a matter of $$$$

A shorter stroke with a longer rod ratio(such as the 289, or a 302 like mine with a different rod/piston setup...I use 5.7" Chevy rods) is also a preferable choice for forced induction since oversquared enginesreally likeblowers. If you are going forced induction, the best route would be to spend the extra money and go turbo. Some guys might think it is ricey, but there's nothing ricey about an 11 second 4.7/5.0L 'Stang with a 76mm turbo that screams like a fire breathin V8 race engine. I plan on putting EFI and a single turbo on my 'Stang at some point

I've been talking with some local people and they say I can get what I want out of the 289. So if this true, what would I need to do to the motor?

Does this sound close?

All forged block.(crank, rods, pistons)
Good set of heads like AFR with a compatible cam.
Fuel injection kit. (Edelbrock)
Supercharger that will put me where I need to be.

heck, i highly doubt you even need to get another crank and rods (i dont even know if you can find forged 289 cranks, and H beam rods are expennnnnnnnsive in the 289 length)

That setup would work, but I wouldn't trust the stock 289 rods for that kinda power. You can find good forged i-beam replacements that'll handle what you want and more for like $200 and up new(get floating pins for that power level). The stock crank if it's prepped properly will handle that power, just don't turn much over 6,000rpm with it, the cast cranks don't like rpm since they don't have the tensile strength of forged units. But otherwise, yeah, good heads, decent cam(go hyd roller, better off in the long run, or solid roller if you don't mind adjusting lash every now and then), decent rods/pistons and prepped block/crank with EFI and a blower. I have forged pistons i-beam rods and the stock crank, and plan on doing the Eddy Pro Flo EFI and a turbo later on. Might spray it in the mean time just for kicks
