Default Engine Question

i found this guy thats selling a 351W long block for $650. its brand new and has zero miles.
a) will this fit into a 67 coupe?
b) are all 351W long blocks? or short blocks?....ive heard people calling them long blocks and books refering to them as short blocks. are long blocks 351 for trucks and short block 351 for car applications?

A 351 W will fit a 67. Be advised that a 67 has different frame mounting holes and requires either frame modification or 67 small block mounts.
A long block is by defination is complete out to the carburetor. It may or may not have the exhaust manifolds. Short blocks do not have heads, manifolds or carbattached.

They should bolt up to 67 insulators, not any other year. The frame holes, brackets and insulators are unique to 67 even though the mail order stores say they are interchangeable.

Default RE: Engine Question

The engine rebuild shops term a long block as the basic engine with cylinder heads. A short block means no heads. Such an engine will not include any "accessory" parts such as intake, exhaust, oil pan, any brackets, distributor, carburetor, etc. But if you get one used that's been removed from a vehicle it may include some of the parts. Unfortunatelysome parts such as the oil pan are 351W AND Mustang specific and whatever is on the engine is not likely to work. Few of the parts from your 289 will work. For example the power steering/AC brackets, the distributor, and intake.
Sure you can put a 351W in a '67, lots of folks have. It's not a straightforward deal though unless you have a donor '69 Mustang 351W you can rob everything from.

the link is dead now probably sold it. yes a 351w and 351c will fit any year mustang ever made.64-66 is a tight fit but 67-73 you can use both big blocks the fe or 429-460 one.
