Default 1966 A-Code casting numbers

I just sent my engine to the machine shop and thougth I'd take a look at the casting numbers. It said started with C6AE. Now, I have to books that tell me two different things-
first book says that the "A" represents FORD
second book says the "A" represents galaxy
What gives?? I've read many many times that toward the end of the 66 Mustang assembly, many "things" were getting thrown into these cars because of production demands. The heads (66 289 Thermac.), carb (C6ZE), 4V intake (C6OE), distributor, etc all seem to match. Perhaps the fact of the matter is that someone in my car's history plopped a Galaxy 289 in it.
I guess my question here is do any of you have engine casting numbers that do not coincide with "Mustang" or "Z", but are sure its the original engine?
Thanks!!

The first Mustang to have it's own casting was the Boss 302in 1969. Mustang engines were 'borrowed' from other Ford product lines where they were developed. And that ain't all - the 64 1/2 proto-type drawings called the name of the new car a 'Special Falcon'. The Mustang uses Falcon suspension, Comet distributors, Fairlane engines - it's Ford's way.

66gtkfb is right its a mass production car meaning most parts on it ford used on alot other cars to keep the production cost down.its still done to this day you can look at a new crown vic town car and grand marquis all 3 are the same car basicly. dont forget the early cougars where based off the mustang.
