Which carb is this ?
So I have a 289 A code, took some pictures of the carb and tried to find a data plate but there is none - all I could find is a 1.08 writing on the carb - I would tend to think it is a 480cfmAutolite 4100 - do you confirm? my understanding is that it is fitted with automatic choke, correct?

Yes..it's a 4100. Under theround black plastic coveris the spring mechanism for the automatic choke. There should be a heat tube that runs up from the exhaust manifold and screws into the holes in the bottom of the choke. The spring, when cool, holds the choke place closed. As the exhaust heats up and sends warm air up...the spring relaxes, and opens the choke plate.
In the second picture you posted of the carburetor, on the lower left is a mounting 'ear'. I can see a number '6' on it but the rest of the characters will tell you what that carb was originally installed on. For further reference, it's the on the outer edge of the left front 'ear'. There should be two (possibly three) additional letters there after the '6'.

Appears to be an Autolite 4100 with a short accelerator pump. It also might be the more desireable 480 cfm model. On your second picture down look at the driver's side and towards the front of the carb there is a number inside a rough looking circle. It will say either 1.08 or 1.12...if it is the 1.08 then it is more desireable then the 1.12 (since the 1.12 is a 600 cfm carb). Let us know what it says...
Here is another link to help you identify the carb - www.ponycarburetors.com
They rebuilt my 4100 and also converted it to a spreadbore. Works excellently now.Pony Carbs knows their stuff.

So I looked at the ear - it says 6 A F
For the automtaic choke, I know for sure it was not connected, I will take car of that when I'll put it back
You may have noticed a lot of goo everywhere - the reason I pulled it out is that the engine flooded and gas was pouring through the rear of the carb - I noticed several orifices have been plugged / sealed, you may be able to see it on some pictures ... have you seen that before?

You carb was set up and used on a 1966 full size Ford with a 390CID engine and an automatic transmission. It was not for use in California nor ever used on a Mustang. However, it will work fine on a 289 with some rejetting to a smaller size, say 47F mains and 57F secondarys for a start.

You have what is called a minor"Old Faithful" - means you have a clog leading to your floats. You can clear that by removing the carb, remove the fuel filter, removing the top (8 screws & the air cleaner stud), removing floats, be very careful to not lose the small pins underneath the floats that help to let fuel in the bowl. Take carb cleaner and spray it into the rear float fuel feed first then into do the same with the front bowl. Should fix the problem but it also sounds like you have more clogs to attend to so a complete rebuild sounds like the thing to do.
If your carb says 1.08 like you said then it is a 480 cfm version and most likely wasn't used on a 390 motor - I think only the 600 cfm carbs (1.12) were used on the 390's... ??

A C6AF-9510-F carburetor (marked on the tag - C6AF-F and on the base - 6 A F), model 4100 - 1.08 venturi, was used on a full size Ford with a 390 CID and automatic transmission in 1966 only. Reference section 95, page 46, of the Ford Car Parts manual. Questions?

Well I have a 289 with a manual 4 speed toploader ... so at least we know this is not the original carb!
Concerning the rebuild operation, I was thinking of buing the following:

and

Anything else I should consider? any concerns on these?
Thanks!
