i just got my 66 mustang and it didnt come with seatbelts in the front seats and back seats, i was wondering what kind of seatbelts would pass a safety check? the waist ones or the ones that goes over the shoulder?

You wont need seatbelts to pass a state inspection. Since the car didn't come with them, you don't need them..

However, it's smart to install them anyways. Id look for the shoulder style rather than the lap belts..

I don't know what the laws are in Hawaii, but in California, you are required to retrofit cars with seatbelts back to a certain year, front and back. Almost all the mail order stores carry some type of belt but they are not original equipment types. If you want an original belt reconditioned to better than original specs, try www.ssnake-oyl.com They are expensive, $200-300forthe front. For better safety, consider installing three point belts (NPD $229.95 for black) in the front. The installation requires drilling mounting holes but they look good and work.

Fixed the Ssnake oyl link.

you cant put a shoulder belt in that car...first of all it didnt come with one and it would look stupid if you put one in and second their is no head rest so it will break your neck if you crash

You can put shoulder belts in both 66 coupes and fastbacks, and they don't look stupid. They look quite normal and safe.

I've had front shoulder belts in my 66 Hardtop for at least 6years. Neither of the us, the two regular drivers, nor the multitude of passengers we carryhave had a problem. I highly recomend them for daily driver vehicles, especially those made in 1968.

Why especially those made in 1968?
