Default Blinkers...!!

I have a 66 coupe and when i switch the blinker on either way itll blink once when i first hit it but thats it.Could this be the flasher unit.I figure this out in the dairy queen drive through with the help of the reflection of the car in front of me.Those slow "fast" food places are good for something at least.

flasher unitusually works or doesnt
bad earth to the flasher unit is more likely. Try truning the blinker on then pressing the wires onto the flasher unit or following the earth back to under the dash to see if its loose.

other alternative is a bad connection - worn or dirty - in the indicator switch in the steering column.

Go solid state, a little costly but worth it.

I can't believe no one suggested that you're low on blinker fluid!

Seriously, though, I'd start with cleaning all the connections before replacing anything.
