Newbie...wanted to say hi
Hi All,
I jumped on here today for the first time.
I got into Mustangs in the early 80's when I was in grade school, and I bought my first car in 1986 when I was 16. It was a '66 Coupe, and I still have it. In fact, I just started to work on it after a 20 year break.
It was purchased in a Burger King parking lot, near Arizona State University, when I was 16 (saved up 2 summers for it). My dad and I were coming back from fishing. I worked on it for almost 2 years, we moved to Chicago, and there it sat....no money or time....college, then medical school, then internship, then residency, and now 20 years later, I started on it again.
Details:
1966 289 Coupe, 4bbl
Silver Frost
Red Pony interior
factory duals
Styled Steels
factory 8-Track
Fasten Seat Belt Light, Emergency brake light
Day/Nite mirror
Remote sideview mirror
I bought original 1967 GT-350 Aluminum valve covers with the matching intake manifold and oval air cleaner when I was in high school
...I think that is it for now
It is such a good feeling to start on it again. I had NO money back then. In fact, when my driver's door was hit, it was cheaper for me to buy a used door than to have it fixed. Back then, In Arizona, parts were EVERYWHERE...garage sales, flea markets, etc.
Ready for this? After I took the door and data plate off, i bought a door off of a guy who was parting out his car. He was parting out a 1965 GT Convertible, K-code, 4-speed, 4.10 gears car with Pony Interior....I still have that data plate!
Thanks...I hope to participate in this forum.
Nick

Thanks!
It is being worked on in the town where my parent's live in Central Illinois. I am about 2.5 hours away. I will try to post some pics when I have a chance to get down there. It KILLS me not to be doing the bulk of the work myself, but I will do most of the detailed work.

My ride is in pieces! But that is a good thing
I will try to have my dad snap some pics. He said the front fenders were off and the engine bay was getting the works done on it.
I have plenty of pics from 1986! $1350 + a $99 Earl Scheib paint job, and I was ready for Junior year!

Back in the mid-80s, I always bought my used parts at a Vintage Ford yard in Phoenix, and I bought my new/repro parts from Dallas Mustang Parts. Is Dallas still a good place, or is there a better place with better quality and prices?....or, are they all about the same?
I just do not have the time to buy from 20 different places to save a few bucks here and there.

welcome
there are lots of choices for parts and the general consensus is to use one near you to save shipping costs. (this is a biatch for me) Most of the repro parts come from the same source anyway.
remember most mechanical parts can be bought cheaper from non-vintage mustang parts places.
