Default oil pan removal

so i was driving my 69 mustang around the block after an oil change, suddenly i hear a tick tick of my lifters and i look down and my oil preasure is non-exsistant. when i noticed that i shut the car off and tried to coast home. to make a long story short, the screen part of the oil pump came lose so it was sucking air into the oil. ive removed all the bolts holding the oil pan in place, but i still couldnt remove it. it was hitting on my cross member. so i removed my crossmember and now its hittinon my steering and no matter which way i turn my wheels it doesnt have enought clearence... am i not doing something or is there a secret with this.... i thought maybe if i usedmy cherry picker and trying to lift the engine a little bit might work??? anyway i'd appreciate any help...

thanks, lucas

You're almost there. You can lift the engine or drop the steering linkage. You might have enough clearance by dropping the idler arm bracket.

Unbolting the cross brace and idler arm works with a 67 and 68. Would guess it would be the same for a 69. On one car I couldn't get the cross brace removed and actually didR&R on the oil pump by reaching between the block and the semi-lowered oil pan. Not fun, but doable.

Pull the steering and the cylinder,, it should be only about 2 nuts and 2 bolts..

On my '68, I dropped the idler arm for more room, but then it really was a dance and a wiggle and a good hard yank followed by another jiggle before it came out.

But it does come out... You just gotta be really patient...

`+1 on the idler arm and cross brace. I just replaced my oil pump and that is what I did. You might have to bump the engine over to make clearance past the crankshaft.
