Default Carb dilemma...

Okay, so a few months ago I had a thread going around about trying to narrow down my carb selection. The thread can be found here.

https://mustangforums.com/m_3327402/tm.htm

Ive decided on two diffrent kinds, and I want to see what you guys think would be the better one for me. Heres what Ive come up with...

Holley Street Avenger - 570cfm
http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...49689_-1_10271

or

Edelbrock Perfomer Series - 500cfm - calibrated for fuel economy
http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...43603_-1_10271

Once again, my car is a daily driver. And it will remain one for the next 2-3 years until I get out of college. I'm really trying to make my car reliable, and also perform well at the same time. Ive already decided on the Weiand Action +Plus Intake Manifold to go with whatever carb I get. So if you guys could give me some input on the two, or if you have a suggestion your free to propose it. Thanks...

Do you do your own tuning or have a person or specific shop you can turn to?
Both are good carbs really, so it will come down to your preferences. My engine guy prefers holley so I stick with that. Over here they are cheaper and parts are easy to get.
good luck with your choice.

My 2$ worth...there are some very good reasons why Holley took over the performance market 40+ years ago. They are easy to work on. They are totally adjustable. They just plain WORK. And think about this...The Hemi came with Carter carbs but when every Pro-Stock Hemi racer went racing he used a Holley.

Considering your stated use of the car/carburator......

I say the Edelbrock simply because of their reliability, and their not really needing to be tuned periodicly..

I like Holley, but the Edelbrocks are very good and virturally maintanance free..... built by Webber...

I have the 570 on mine and my car is by no means a turd(depending on who you ask) I'd go with that, cuz the 500cfm though it will work well, may end up being too small later down the road if you up the performance of the engine. And Holleys have better tunability(I think, having worked on both I like the Carter metering rod, but Holleys are simpler and you have way more control over the accelerator pump circuit than you do with the Edelbrock/Carter, which is important if you want really crisp throttle response, especiallyon a performance engine since every performance engineis different and sometimes require more finite control over fuel delivery). My 570 gets me good mileage, good power all the way through 6,000rpm and throttle response enough that even with traction bars and a locker the thing still can be a wild ride when you nail it from off idle in 1st
