First - when all else fails, read the instructions of the Pertronix.

Check the faq section. I believe there is a section that deals with pertronics??

ok i read through that all, didnt even mention a ballast resistor, i dont have one now and the engine ran fine before i tore it down, so i wont put it in, i read it was used for points ignition, but since the pertronix removed the points, i guess i dont need it anymore

All Ford 12V systems have resistance in the lead to the coil except in Start--The purpose of the resistor is to protect the points by reducing the run voltage to them. Earlier systems used a ballast resistor on the fire wall. Later systems incorporated a resistor wire in the Ign switch to coil lead.

ALL mustangs had the resistor wire when new-Hopefully some idiot did not remove or bypass it..

Without instructions, most of the posts on Pertronix's systems indicate a full 12V to the coil is necessary. I would do two things: verify this with Pertronix; use the search function of this forum.

A stock Mustang had a resistance wire built into the under-dash harness.
