it is my understanding (from when I got my pertronix ignition) that if you get the 1.5 ohm coil, which is for V8's, then that 1.5 ohms is proper resistance for the pertronix ignition. I believe it the ignition or coil instructions it mentions not to use a resister for the V8 engines. A little table in there somewhere.

But then again, my wiring harness overloaded somewhere and burned out my fusible link and also blew my ignition, so who knows I just think I have a short somewhere or the negative battery terminal wasn't grounded well enough since I now have a 100 amp alternator.

pertronix requires a straight 12 volts from the get go,,, there recomendation per se' is to tap the red line off the igniton switch BEFORE THE PINK LUMP which is a resister that drops volts to 7.5? or so and will cause errractic performance according to their instuctions,, you can go to their web site and double check install infi,,, hope this helps

The manuel is in pdf form online if you google it...if you've got adobe you're all set and can find out thru that. I believe you don't need it
