short headers or no??
Thanx for the link, but the try-Y's are $860!!!! I don't mind spending 2-300 but NO WAY on that! any other suggestions? Mustangs unlimited have ceramic coated ones for $260. So far that's the only ones I've found reasonably priced.
Ceramic Tri-Y's are the way to go... Have then on my wife's '65 with a 289 & C4 - good clearance on speed bumps and the car is lowered (Shelby drop/620 coils/mid eye rear leafs)
I also used something called the "Header Buddy" - fits up where the collector dumps to the exhaust system. No more blown out header gaskets. So far I've been VERY happy with mine - no leaks. Inexpensive and I don't have to worry about getting my old body underneath the car to replace the header gaskets...

as mentioned before, you're likely to have to go back and re-torque them a few times a year as the bolts get loose. Because of that you want to make sure you get something thatallows easy to access tothose bolts. tri-y usually work just fine, but be cautious with equal length short tubes. Sometimes they get so busy with all those tubes wrapping aroundin a small areathat there's hardly any room left to getto the bolts. Then you end up cussing every time you have to tighten them.

FWIW, I originally had a set of Patriot shortys for my car. The first set had a hole in the weld at the collector and the second set didn't fit. I ended up paying about twice as much for the JBAs and am happy with the purchase. Obviously, value is a subjective term.

The good news is that Summit is very good with returns if there is a problem.

My experience is that you absolutely cannot go wrong with JBA headers for your early Mustang. Granted you'll pay more, but they will fit, last, look good and perform.

I haven't used their tri-ys but have had excellent results with the shortys in two different vehicles.
Good luck!

+1 on the JBA's. I bought a set of shortys for the fastback and they fit like a dream. If you are in for a dime then you may as well be in for a dollar. It doesn't cost that much more to go first class....
