change oil, no oil pressure
Ive used Fram filters for 14+ years and have had 0 problems. 67mustang302, I dont think you know what youre talking about. Im trying to start anything with you, but I think your claim about flimsy cases is completely false. I run a hi-volume/hi-pressure oil pump in my '85 GT. At idle its somewhere around 85/90 psi. Fram is the ONLY "normal" filter that hasnt balooned on me. Purolaters, Wix, Napa silver or gold, all balooned with 5 miles of driving.
BTW, ANY oil filter will twist up like a pretzel if its on too tight. Remember ony 3/4 of a turn once the seal makes contact. You should NEVER use a socket wrench or oil filter wrench to tighten a filter up.

Almost forgot about the original poster. DOH! Pull the disty out and see if the oil pump driveshaft is still there. I'm betting its not. Old engine will build up hardend sludge in the oil pump pickup. If one of those breaks free and gets sucked up by the pump it WILL stop it. This happend to me twice on a 79 stang I had. I wound up dismantling the pickup tube head, and finding tons of this hard sludge in there. Then I simply took the pump out, cleaned the gears, put it back together, didnt have any problems after that.

Yea, I took apart a chevy once that had sheared the top of the oil pump drive shaft on the pump itself.
I boughta car with over a 100,000 miles on itfor the BBC engine, drove it about 5 miles to my shop with no oil pressure, I rebuilt that engine to stock specs, no oversize anything, not even rods and mains...
I tell you,,, Ihave been lucky that way....

This unofficial study is pretty damn convincing,,,,,,
But like I said before, it looks like most folks here (besides me) change their oil every 3,000 miles, IMO, for people changing oil this often, I doubt that the brand of filtermakes a damn bit of difference..
well i haven't really dove into it yet cause standing jsut hurts i just hapned to break my toe 10 min after the car incedent based on what i have head in the engine the pump is working i can hear oil dripping and moving in the pan but i have zero oil pressure and i swapped the filter to a motorcraft so i am leaning to a few things
A> Spun Bearing
B> Oil Pressure Bypass valve
C> Hopefully a Collapsed Lifter blocking the flow of oil or something cheap like that
either way i am planning on buying this 88 302 roller block from a guy here in town cept i kinda wanna build it up and not rush it so i can have a car again well i will find out on my next day off next week

Just because the oil is moving around in the pan doesnt mean its getting pumped anywhere. JUST PULL THE DAMN DISTRIBUTOR OUT!!! ITS A DAMN 1/2" WRENCH AND MINUTE OF YOUR TIME.

] no oil pump driveshaft. Put a new one in, drove it for a mile snapped again. This time I yanked the pump dismantled everything, found crusted sludge in the corners of the pick up baffle, cleaned out everything put er back together ran great until the frame broke [:@].
O yeah, the WORST part about it. The Ford driveshafts dont shear. They literally explode in to a million little pieces [:@]. Used a wet/dry shop vac to vacuum out the oil pan

Does anybody know if Consumer Reports did a study on oil filters? That might lend some weight to that 'knitzfamily' study.
