Suggested Shocks
Many will give the standard answer to go with KYB gas-a-just shocks. They are fine shocks but are a higher pressure gas shock and give a firmer ride. If you're looking to maintain a plusher ride and still want the KYB, the GR-2 may be to your liking. I've used the gas-a-justs previously, but only know of the GR-2 from their website.
[edit] Vince beat me to the punch on the GR-2s.
You can get a set of GR-2s from rockauto.com for $81.44 + shipping. The gas-a-justs are about twice that.

Yeah, the Monroe-Matics are crap. Way too mushy. I have the KYB gas adjusts on my 65 and absolutely am in love with the perfprmance I get from them. Along with the export brace and monte carlo bar, the gas adjusts allow me to take curves at least 10 miles over the posted limit without any feeling of swaying. The G2's on the other hand are a bit more mushy for my liking. They are cheaper for a reason.
I must admit that I deserved the slam from soaring when I mentioned I've got Monroe's on my '66, but at my age I practically need a shoe horn to get me out of the car. CA roads suck! so getting beat up by a good set of KYBs don't exactly agree with my backside.

I have the Gas-A-Justs in mine as well, the ride is a very positive andcrisp feel, and you can feel the road, but it's not stiff, still very comfortable. With those shocks, export brace, sway bars and a good alignment I can take most curves at 2x what the posted is without difficulty, but it doesn't break my backside either

I slow down for curves before I get to them, then floor it in the middle of the curve to sling me around the curve. I love driving a rear wheel powered car.
Hahaha, I haven't found any posted at 50. But I've taken 35 curves at a bit over 70 and some curves on the highway(racing someone) posted at 45, at over 100(though admitedly they post some of those recommended speeds quite conservatively). But the big help is from the sway bars and the alignment, but with a 1 1/8" sway bar up front there ain't much suspension independance, so when one wheel hits a pot hole, you really feel it
