Default RACK AND PINION STEERING

Is rack and pinion a good way to go? I've heard some mixed idea's. I already have power steering is there any sort of mods that I will need to do?

unless you have a minimum of $1K, I'd stick to the power steering.I've been looking for about 6 mos, and there are several options, both bolt in and weld in and the prices vary allot. I'll be following this thread closely to see if I can get some ideas. Make ya a deal, you buy the rack and I'll buy your P/S

R&P has a better feel to it but the factory worm and recirc. ball style will work just as well. It tends to not have as positive a feel because the worn and ball has a LOT of mechanical advantage, so the steering feels softer than with R&P because it doesn't transmit as much feedback from the road to the steering wheel. A worm an ball system properly maintained will provide just as much control as R&P. R&P can be an option though depending on what other mods you do if you need the clearance in certain places, or you make some sort of radical suspension change. If you have a steering system that's all messed up and you basically need to replace it all, since it'll cost close to the same an R&P wouldn't be a bad idea. Most of the wanering problems people have with the stock style is from weak or worn parts, no lube in the steering box, no lube in the ball joints, ball joints worn, bad idler arm etc.

I put RRS brand rack and pinion in my car because it is the only one I know that sells a right hand drive one. The car now hits the corner exactly where I want and no more wandering on the freeways. I love it and it makes me enjoy the car even more. It is a little heavy if you are going real slow but with a little speed it is real light.
