Smoke coming from one side of 67 Dual Exhaust
I had a shop rebuild my 289 2B and change it to a 289 4B Hi-Po 3 years ago. The mechanic said that he had to touch hone it and bore it out a little over the max spec. So he added some .005 rings to account for the overboreing.
Well - I've put about 1000 miles on it and I'm still getting smoke out of the driver side exhaust after it idles for about 5 minutes. It does not happen upon ignition... I don't notice the smoke when driving.
I can't say that it is more blue than black smoke...
Any clue?

You are burning oil. The likely causes are rings or valves. I would do a compression check as a starting point. From there you might get a better feel as to rings (one or two lower in the readings) or valves. Pull off the header and do an eyeball check for one odd exhaust port that's a little too 'oily'. The fix is a bitch.

Oil yes. However the bank that is blowin oil could be getting oil into the cylinder via intake gasket.I experienced this on a 454 chevelle recently. It sucks it up under the gasket if its off even a lil bit. So put new gaskets on with sealer put the bolts in the holes let it dry then put the intake on that makes sure the gasket is lined up and seals well.

The clue is that you are burning oil and need to take it back to the mechanic who built it and have him correct the problem. This time on his nickel.

What exactly would you notice on the plugs?

youl probly spot the bad cylinder when you look at your plugs.
I missed that 3 year thing. You will see a black greasy/sooty looking plug for the cylinder that is burning oil. More than likely a ring broke. You are going to have to tear into the engine anyway.

Thanks guys! I'll do some investigating... If anyone is bored and wants to make a road trip to Atlanta, you are welcome to "practice" your repair techniques on my car!

Just out of curosity, what did the mechanic do to make your 289 a hi-po? You can get the hi-po hp with a variety of aftermarket parts. Trying to recreate the hi-po as produced by Ford is an expensive endevor.
