Default 65' VIN report help and your opinion

Hi all: I'm hoping to find some who can help me identify a 65 convertibleI am looking at:

door tag: 75 AK 25 100 61 31
VIN# 5F08T659270

This car is in TX, and is a 3-yo frame up restoration of a TX vehicle that supposedly started with no rust in the floor or door panels.

It is not a numbers matching car, and has had the GT wheels, stripes and driving lights added during the resto.
It has a relatively new (8,000 miles) crate 289 with a holly 4bbl added. Original c4 tranny.
The work was done by the owner of a bodyshop, I have not yet inspected the car personally, but the Silver paint looks flawless from all the pics. Red interior is new. Looks sharp overall.
Radiator/brakes/m.cylinder/suspension parts all replaced along with wires/hoses. No power steering, no a/c, manual top.

Any help on decoding the door tag and VIN info, plus your opinion on value/price would be helpful in my decision, thanks.

When I run the tag on www.mustangdecoder.com some of the digits aren't coming up correct. You may have to look a bit closer and verify the data.

What I could get is 1965; Dearborn, MI plant; convertible; 200 1v I6 engine; Silver Smoke Grey Metallic; Red standard interior; Dallas district; 3.20:1 rear axle; 3-speed manual transmission.

If the paint and body is good along with the interior and the V8 swap was done correctly along with the driveline, I'd say it is worth between $14k to $18k. Once you get above $20k, you can buy a completely restored factory V8.

Check "completed listings" in Ebay to get an idea what these things go for.

Good luck!

First, go back and take another look at the tag.
-The '75' is really '76' with an'A', after it.
- The color code is 'K' for silver gray.
- The interior code is '25' for red vinyl.
- The build date code is '10Q', not '100', for March, 10, 1965.
- The DSO destination is '61' for Dallas, located somewhere near Fort Worth.
- The axle code is '3' for a 7.5 inch ring gear with a 3.20:1 ratio.
- The transmission code is '1' for a 3 speed manual 2.77 type.
You car was a 200CID six cylinder.
Value - it's what you can afford. As a convertible, it's more desirable, as a modified with a 289 engine, it's desirable, but that depends on how well it was done.
To my way of thinking, 'restored' also applies to the undercarriage. Take a look at the floor pan. It should be in as good shape as the fenders.
Pictures would be nice, only to see what you call 'GT' wheels. Speaking of which, there should be 5 lug, not 4 lug, wheels all the way around.

I've had to 'decode' preliminary government contracts, specification and proposals for my company (way back when), all written by some of the most -- well, you get the picture. I think JamesW has the best bi-line.

Thanks all, esp. 66GTKFB - you deciphered the codes correctly.www.mustangdecoder.comwas cool find, thanks.

I willcheck the fenders and floor pan. The motor was a new crate, installed at restoration, the 8,000 milles is what the owner has put on in the 3 years since.
Still need to figure out why it has the C4 (supposedly original) while the numbers say 3spd - could be that # is wrong too, I will check, anyone know the c4 code?

Owner is dreaming about getting 25k, but we're down to 21k prior to inspection.

I figured out how to search for the completed listings on ebay, when I search for 65to69 "mustang convertible restored"seems like most ended with reserve not met, with bids ranging from 13 to 24, so perhaps 21 is a bit on the high-end, although when I looked at getting a 69 restored, the detailed estimate was nearly 30k.

I posted the pics here: http://s200.photobucket.com/albums/aa202/bitfarmer/

For you info, the C4 code for your year Mustang is '6'. Depending on your detailed inspection for problems, the selling prices on e-bay are a reflection of the real world. That convertible fits the defination of 'restomod' and depending on how well it was done, the price may be in line.
