Default Purchase Stock Engine

I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion on where to buy a stock Ford engine for my 1965. Is rebuilt/remanufactured ok? Better to buy in person or is this something I could order online? I am looking for a V8 to replace the I6. Thanks.

I will have a very nice 289 available once I finish my upgrade project. It runs strong, but I'm addicted to HP and need more...I will be selling complete dip stick to starter, etc...it's also dressed out with all the Cobra goodies, new Holley. Not sure as I did not build it, but it runs very strong for a stock 289, I suspect the cam is not stock...I will also be dumping the toploader with it, clutch, etc...heck come to think of it, I will have the entire rear end as well, 8" peg leg...

Or you can just google "289 crate engine" and get a ton of places to shop. Here is one for example. If you already have an engine, my suggestion would be to find a reputable builder and have yours rebuilt. It would be cheaper that way.

It looks like Zulurcerx might have a lot of what you need, if the price is right, it may be worthwhile to go that way.

Going this way, you can get a bunch of "nickle and dime" stuff included in the package, those nickles and dimes add up quick when doing a swap.

AHA! Now we get into preparing that V8 into an I6 car. The entire suspensinsion both front and rear has to be upgraded to the
V8 suspension. The brakes and the transmission and rear end have to be upgraded to accept the V8 motor. Are you monetarially willing to proceed? It ain't cheap bro.

Zulu to the rescue. I will have most all ofthose bits as I am replacing brakes, rearend, all suspension, toploader, 289. Downside is it will probably be November before I could deliver. Upside is you can see everything installed. Not sure what price to ask for the bits, but I can tell you my project budget to replace all this stuff will be in the $30,000 range, not including the car of course...All of this stuff is excellent, it will just not come close to doing the job I will be asking it to do...

Let us know what your ultimate goal for your car will be do just want a basic 60's area V8 car or as most do when converting from I6 is go restomod? How much power do you want out of that V8 and most importantly what kind of buget are you on?

remember its alot more work then just replacing the engine and trans. talking to mustanglover66 he works for a great engine builder nothing wrong with a rebuild engine as long as the block is good.

The I6 in the car now needs a total rebuild. Because of that, I was thinking that I may like to just replace the I6 with a 289 V8. I don't need some suped up 289 motor. I would be very happy putting in a rebuilt stock 289 motor. And yes I do realize that there are other things that need to be done when going from a 6cyl to an 8cyl.

So I need to find an old 289 and get it rebuilt or buy an already rebuilt 289 from somewhere.
