Default Night driving

I had my car out at night for the first time since I purchsed it. Fantasctic evening here in LA!

Anyway, I had three observations about driving in the dark...

First, my insturment panel is VERY dull and uneven (one side is faint green, the other barely viable green). Is this the case in your cars? Can they be brightened? Comapred to my USA66 radio face and rally-pac (both reproductions) the instrument panel was barely adequate.

Second, even through I upgraded my headlights, they were just okay. I ended up drving with the brights on, which helped alot, andmust have been aceptable to the other drivers because in 90 minutes of traffic no one flashed me.

Thrid, the LED taillights are a must-have for saftey. I love them!

For the instrument panel, you can disassemble and clean the green lens...but that won't make much of a difference. Other options are to remove the green lenses and let the white illuminate the dash, and/or you can drill holes in the housing and add 2 additional lamps to the circuit.

My personal preference was changing to white faced gages and removing the lenses. The dash was then similar to a modern car and very visible for night driving. http://midnightdsigns.com/james/Whiteface.htm

Did you upgrade your headlights to Halogenbulbs only orinstallrelays? I had to do both to get the brightness that I desired.

This is an alternative that looks promising, I'm considering this one myself. It would be nice if they had a kit for rally-pacs too.

As far as your instrument cluster goes, check all of the bulbs. I'd be willing to bet dimes to doughnuts that you have a couple of burnt ones. The difference won't be incredible, but it will be better than it is now.

As for night driving, I installed a 68GT grill with the clearfog lights on my 67 (personal preference, I like the clean lines of the 68 grill as opposed to the "busy" 67) and now the ability to see in the dark has been GREATLY enhanced. Not halogen quaility but very acceptable.
