Ticking Time Bomb???
I just finished the install of the 302 I built last month... It looks sweet... at least for my first go at this! Anywho, I bought a larger diameter fuel hose to supply enough gas to the engine. I bought just a rubber fuel hose from summit thinking i can just throw it up there and it would be good enough until i can get it to a shop and have them fab up a steel one. Is this ok??? Or is my rubber fuel hose just the dumbest thing ever and I shouldn't leave my driveway until I put a steel one up there?I certainly don't want to be driving down the road and suddently go Kaboom!
Yea... i don't have any bending tools and i kept getting pinched tubes... so i figured i'd just let the professionals do that. I've found i hit a frusteration point and then say screw it and let the pros handle it for me. But so far this is the only thing I needed someone else to do... so i'm pretty proud so far.

Why not just order prebent for less than the shop will charge or you could do yourself.

My 65 had rubber from the fuel tank to a hard line(about a foot and a half) then from where it jutted out of the wheel well it went rubber to the pump them rubber to the carb. That isn't normal?
pump to carb not an issue provided its fuel grade hose.
steel underneath was protection from rocks more than anything. i would not replace this with rubber.
you can always use braided from pump to carb.

Get the hard metal tube gas lines on there as soon as you can.
