Heartbroken...:(
I have a tired 302 that would get you out of trouble...but its a little far to come get it.
I think the junkyard 302 option is still your best bet over the 351C in your current state of finances.
good luck

I'm not saying this will work for you but it has worked for me. If you've got an auto auction anywhere in your part of the country, see if they have an " open to thepublic " night. There are two auto auctions here in NW Arkansas which allow the general public to come and bid on the cars as they go through the ring. Most of the higher quality auctions don't do this as they are a dealer only type of format. BUT ...
You can often find an older Galaxie , LTD , Granada etc ... that will have a good engine, trans etc ... The nice thing about a 73 Galaxie or a 79 LTD is that it probably hasn't been hot-rodded too much. I've bought some killer engines for afew hundred dollars and sent the carcass to the crusher.
It won't be a tire frying monster but it will get you out of a bind. The Cleveland is a cost prohibitive swap.Other than the small incidentals required to make the swap, the real down side is the fuel milage. I've never met a C motor yet that got any good milage. My Mach 1's blinker comes on automatically every time I pass a gas station

I could about 20mpg out of my 69 with a cleveland as long as I stayed out of it. It was a stock 71engine with headers. Try getting a 302 from a pickup to get you going. There a tons of trucks out there.
I was in your shoes many moons ago. I scoured the junkyards and found one that had a "decent" 351w that he guaranteed not to knock or smoke for a few hundred dollars.
Being in the bind I was I bought it and it ran for several years. I could probably still run the engine but I swapped it out with my last fresh rebuild. Maybe your best bet. Don't expect any kind of long term warranty, but if they will guarantee it not to knock or smoke then it should do the job just fine.
God speed.
