"What can go wrong, will go wrong..."

In my searching for a vacuum leak this past weekend i've replaced everything from my fuel line, 1in spacer, PCV valve and hose, all in the hopes of getting this new carb running great...Well to my surprise we couldn't find the problem and in rechecking the timing and tuning today to retrace our steps the engine threw a rod and my engine is shot...Apparently i was misled on the condition of the engine and the recent "rebuild" that apparently took place....so in other words I've just paid $3000.00 (aka all my savings from working this summer) toward my tuition in the fall for school just to find out i need to pull and replace my engine... Guys if any of you have a good quality 302 for sale and are willing to give me a good deal on it i would greatly appriciate it...I start school back full time in 29 days and my '67 coupe is my daily driver and my only transportation... Thanks for all you guys help as i'm learning more and more on the forums and i'm just trusting that God has a purpose for this and he will provide...

who did the rebuild? If it was a shop they should cover some kind of waranty if it wasn't too long ago.

 

It was rebuilt as i was told "29k" miles ago...however it wasn't from the owner i bought it from but the owner before that...I have the papers proving the rebuild, but i don't believe it was done properly... So it's in my hands...

 

How do 351c handle as daily drivers? I just spoke to a man selling a very good condition 351c for 300 that only is in need of a cam and rollers and perhaps a new seals that are a little worn.

 

very well but 351c = new headers carb exhaust reconnected to headers etc etc = more of your money you can pick up a late model 302 for a few hundred buck sure the intake gaskets is not leaking whaty exactly is the engine doing??

The 351C sounds like it has too many unknowns for a person in your situation.

Have you called around the local junkyards? You can probably find an inexpensive 302 that will come with a warranty. You could also look in your local Craigslist for a cheap running donor car or truck.

 

Engine threw a rod on the 7th cylinder....I believe a valve had gotten bent. So the 351c convertion would take what swapped? I can't follow your post...

 

Haha yeah 302 is what i'm looking for...No luck with the junkyards so far, found a couple good leads on craigslist but nothing for a good deal that doesn't have something wrong or in need of rebuild...

man, if you HAVE to get it running, find a straight six to go in it while you save money for a v-8, there are people on this forum that will GIVE you a straight six if you will get it out of their way

 

installing a inline6 is a much harder conversion than any v8 is. That's not an option, much more work even if it was free.
