Front suspension was done by the previuos owner and is in pretty good condition (though the front left tire rubs against the front fender when I back up and turn the wheel clock wise, need to look at that).

Now sure how this might work, but what I was going to do once I selected a shop to do the work is to go over the car with them, get a list of body panel they recomment replacing and if its a bolt on piece I will do the dis-assembly. If it needs to be cut out... thats not my cup of tea. I will aslo strip out the interior and possibly even the wiring (not sure if they can strip a car to bare metal with wiring in place). I noticed that most of the interior is not painted, just bare metal, i'd like to have it painted to help preserve it.

I would get them to assemble all the body so it aligns right, but I would put the interior back togeather myself, do the wiring and such.

From the limited knowledge I have gathered by looking at those two pictures combined with what you have stated here, I would guess that the car might not be too bad rust wise if a PO has not "hidden"lots ofexterior rust damage.

But we do need pictures....

i would strip it down and get it acid dipped, then have a shop repair or replace all the bad areas

What would that cost assuming I stripped it down myself?

POR 15 is a rust eliminator or encapsulator. It turns rusty metal into good metal and stops the rust from getting worse. That is the first thing you should do, then wait a week or so to start stripping that car. If you can't do it yourself, it needs to go to a shop and be completely stripped to determine the rust damage. I am seeing a lot more damage than the previous posters are seeing because if you see it outside the paint, it is twice as bad underneath the paint.
