New 68 owner
Here is how I was going to do it
[ol][*]Take it to a few local shops and let them give it the once over, try to get a feel of how they would do it[*]Get that feedback and run it by a few people "in the know" so that I pick the best place to do it (there is one place here called Killer Customs that only does restorations, one place that always always has a few project cars around it and then a few other run of the mill body shops)[*]Once I pick the shop then take it back there and work out a plan with the shop so that I can do as much as possible myself (both to save money and cause I want to do it) but after looking over several restoration blogs it seams that the folowing is common:[/ol][blockquote][ol][*]Owner dissasembles car[*]Shop takes care of rust, puts on any new sheet, aligns the body and primes[*]Car ususally return to owner for some more work[*]Back to the shop for paint[*]Owner finishes assembling car[/ol][/blockquote]
Thats my rough idea now anyways. One of my goals is to have the entire body painted, inside and out, so that there is no bare metal. It seam that in 68 they didn't paint alot of the interior. I've seen restorations that remove the crome from the rear bumper and paint it the car color, as well as a front lower panel that does away with the bumper. I like the look of that and may do that as well.
From what I've seen here I think I am looking at about
2000-2500 to have the rust taken care of, new sheet metal and primed
4000-5000 to have it painted
1500-2000 for fittings and any trim/fixtures that need to be replace.
(note these are Canadian prices... any one up here in the GWN able to validate these costs)

Your project is similar to mine (Started in Feb). I started with the front and rear suspension, front Grenada disks, stripped the interior. Now working on the surface rust on the interior, when I get tired of that I move to the exterior, for a change of pace. I went ahead a purchased the complete interior for when I am ready to reinstall (after paint). If you’re going to go this far plan on new window gaskets, seals every piece of rubber in, on and around the doors. Is a blast, have fun.
I'm just in the process over the past day of putting in a new stereo so I have something to listen to for the next month or so before we move and I start the great tear down....
I've realized that my 6'1" body was not made for crawling around inside a 68 coup...... whos Idea was it to put the fuse panel above the brake peddle... thats moving for sure...
