Default Emblem Removal

Does anyone have any suggestionsfor getting off the side front "mustang" metal emblems on my 68 coupe? I believe there are pins holding them.

The idiot who had the car before me painted over them because he couldn't get them off! Hopefully I can remove them and clean them up.

Thanks!

Yeah, they are called barrel nuts that you have to gain access to in order to remove them. Take your splash shield off and you will see/feel them. Just tap the end of the pin with a hammer/mallet and it will release from the barrel nut.

I wouldnt bother trying to clean them. You can buy new ones for around $10 at most resto shops. Mine are all new, just gotta get off my butt and put them on.

Those barell nuts have a pair of small tabs sprung out on the inside holding them in place. If you tap too heavily, the hole gets larger. You might consider squeezing the tabs first when you get inside to tap them out.
