Don't want to bust your chops here but back in the day, we used to get people who would pull in the shop and ask how much for a paint job. When we gave them a rough estimate, we usually got "WTF?? all ya gotta do is spray some paint!" One day I was not in the mood for any of that garbage when this guy pulled in driving a ratty Chevy station wagon and wanted a paint job. When I told him the price, he freaked, calling me every name in the book. So, I grabbed the nearest primer gun and said "you want it with the windows up or down?". He left in a hurry.
People don't understand the work that goes into a quality paint job. It's the prep/body work that is critical for paint to look good and last a while.I've been out of the business for a while but 3-5K sounds about right and that depends on the shape of the car at the start. What really gets pricey is when a shop has to undo a former hack job before doing it right.
Good luck!

I wastoying with the idea ofwhat I'd expect to pay for a paint job if I've already sanded, removed all chrome, and masked the car off myself - either drive it in with bare metal, or with the primer on and ready to go.
A lot of it depends on where you live and what colors and type of paint you choose. For example, I'm in L.A. and am getting my '65 fastback done at a pretty competitive price. The car was pretty straight but had a crappy re-paint or two on top that had to come off. $550 got it blasted to bare metal and another $350 for an epoxy prime including materials. The blasting revealed NO rust damage to be repaired and only several dings and very small dents. To get the entire thing prepped for paint (block and hammer small dents as flat as possible, fill imperfections, prime, block sand, prime) is $2500. The finish two stage paint is estimated at this point to cost $1200 for a blue pain but will be finalized once the paint is chosen. As it was explained to me, blues are less costly, with whites and blacks being cheapest and reds and yellows being most expensive.
So, I'm looking at $4,600 with me doing the reassembly when it is finished. I've been told that this is pretty inexpensive for the area for what I am doing. Working in my favor is that there has been very little rain in L.A. this past year (barely 3") so the body shops have not been as busy as usual from the accidents.
Good luck!

The question is like asking everyone on the forum to step outside and report on the exact shade of the sky today, of course the shade would be different depending on where it is being viewed from, and of course everyone would have a different idea of what each shade should be called.
A "nice" paint job has different meanings for different people. Would your definition of a nice paint job include painting the door, hood, and trunk jambs? Would the nice paint job include painting the underside and /or inside of the car?
What is the condition of the body and current finish of the car? Have there been poor repairs done on the car in the past?
I think that if you are talking about a "sand and shoot" the prices given in previous posts are ballpark..
