numbers matching?
I am somewhat new to the classic mustang hobby. Have a 64.5 convertible and was wondering the best way to determine if it is a "numbers matching" vehicle? Can anyone offeradvice on the simplest way to tell if the motor and trans are original?
Thanks,
Clayton

64.5s were date coded but not vin stamped, there truly is no way to tell for 100% certain. Date codes can be a very good determiner, but it is possible to go online (or even easier I'm sure in the 60s and 70s) and find a date code correct engine and transmission. I bought a standard bore date code correct '67 289 for $250. I hear that the date code on the engine should be a few months before the door jambs date code data plate on the body of the car.
Bottom line is that you cannot have a numbers matching 65-66 Mustang because the VIN was not stamped onto the engine and transmission. Kevin Marti cannot even tell you the history of your car. Accept it for what it is and live with it.
