i need help with a decode
hi again, a while back i posted about having a cleve that i was gonna rebuild, i was gonna take it out of a 72 mach 1 which had been totalled, well for some reason i decided i was going to look up the vin # and so i did a serch on the forum and got a good web site for the vin and it turns out i have the Q code for the engine which indicates i have or had a 4v cleve, as well as the plant body style and unit #
is there a difference between the cleve 4v and the boss cleve??? like maybe a 4v high output or something like that?
thecode plate thatis located on the side of the doorwas removed by the previous owner, i wanted to know if a plate like that is located anywhere else on the car, cuz if not the only thing i have to go by is the vin#, would the vin be able to tell you all the other stuff such as rear end, original color, ect...??
i was hopeing to get all the fact i could on this car before i remove the engine, though its a long shot, if its a diamond in the ruff, i wont use the engine.... i guess it all depend on what is found out... any help would be appreciated.. thanks guys

boss 302 are a g code i believe and the 71 351 is a r code the boss was made 69 70 and 71 not a 72 once the door tags gone most of the info is gone with it. engine and tranny are in the vin i think rear end has a tag on it saying what it is other stuff like car color and interior your kinda left gussing.the q code is the low compression 351c cobra jet. see if you can get the block codes from behide the starter should be a D2AE-CA.

deadmanrob.... hey those both worked for the vin but niether told me anything about the door tag, as andrew said once the door tag was gone, the info it lost, i was hoping to find out that info, i really wanted the know what the rear end was and engine,
well im off to my parents house, if anyone else knows how i could find out the door tag info please let me know, ill post when i get back about the engine thanks...
In 72 they had the r-code cleveland. In 71R is the boss 351 in 72 it is the 351 h.o. I beleive they came with solid lifters. In 72 they built somewhere in the neighberhood of 400 r code mustangs
ok so i got the engine code and it is D2AE-CA, does that mean it is the low compression cobra jet or what????
i also got the #'s off the rear end if anyone can help me with those i would appreciate it. the tag has about 5 different sets of #'s thanks lucas

If you go to martiautoworks.com you can give them the vin and for about 20 bucks he ( Kevin Marti) will give you all the info you need . for about 50 to 200 dollars he can give you a complete build sheet and reproduction door tag.The report includes all options , paint , trim , interior , tranny , motor , type of interior material, all colors , type of tires , size of rear end , order date , build date , build plant , dealer address who sold it etc...phone him if you want , 623-935-2558 ,and they will put a rush on it good luck Bill
one more thing , are you familiar with a "buck Tag" , that was a small metal tag sometimes attached at the radiator support near the battery or on the side of the radiator support . if your car is intact , not wrecked or replaced ... you might look in those areas and give us here on the forum any numbers and letters you find and we can probably give you the info you need from the buck tag.
